The restoration of the frescoes

Audioguide

In 1996, the church frescoes had developed cracks and accumulated dirt. Therefore, after lengthy procedures, architect and conservator Pierlucio Pellissier and his team were commissioned to restore Nincheri’s work.

They removed all the dust and efflorescence caused by water from the surface. The stained-glass windows were also cleaned and the lighting was adjusted to showcase the frescoes, which had been restored to their original splendour.

Before leaving the site, Pellissier left a note on the wall, well-concealed behind the organ:

Merci

Pellissier"
