The chancel
The Sainte-Amélie Church chancel features three frescoes which portray scenes in the life of Jesus Christ. Look closely at the centre of the main fresco, which depicts the Holy Trinity. God the Father is at the top, the Holy Spirit represented by a dove is in the middle, and Jesus’ reign on Earth is at the bottom.
Take the time to examine the planet pictured beneath Jesus. You will notice that Nincheri has positioned Jesus directly above Canada to emphasize his close presence. A subtle way of reminding us that Jesus is with us, in the here and now.

Now look at the path of light emanating from the dove in the middle. It not only illuminates the figures in this painting, but also those in the adjacent frescoes, which depict the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In the fresco to the left, illustrating his birth, Nincheri drew inspiration from his beloved wife Giulia’s face to bring the Virgin Mary to life. She often served as his model and embodied the mother of Jesus in her husband’s works on many occasions.

Now turn your attention to the fresco of the resurrection. The soldier on the left, who is standing directly in the beam of divine light, is none other than Nincheri himself! Here, the artist has tipped his hat at a painting tradition of the Renaissance, where many painters would add their own likeness to their works.
