For your safety
In case of emergency, you can contact security by calling 3911.
Fire safety
This building complies with all modern fire code requirements and offers protection against major fire damage.
However, in case of fire, the following information could be useful:
Each floor has two emergency exits, marked by the lit Sortie signs.
Manual fire alarm pull stations and chemical extinguishers are located near these exits.
If you need to evacuate because of a fire or any other reason, use the fire escape.
NEVER USE THE ELEVATOR.
Further instructions will be provided via our PA system.
What to do if you notice a fire:
Stay calm.
Activate the nearest manual fire alarm pull station.
Close all the doors.
Call 3911 to contact the security department and tell them where the fire is.
Don’t try to fight minor fires, and be sure to get away from the flames.
Always keep the key to your room on your person.
What to do if you can’t leave your room:
Stay calm.
Call the security department at 3911 to tell them where you are so they can send help.
If smoke starts seeping in under the door to your room, block the space with wet towels to keep the smoke out.
Fill the bath, garbage cans and ice bucket with water so you can easily keep the towels wet. Only open the window as a last resort, as the air from outside could stoke the flames.
Safety advice that can save your life during a fire:
Keep calm and alert at all times.
Pay attention to the instructions provided via our PA system.
Don’t hesitate to call the security department for help.
Don’t smoke in bed.
Never empty an ashtray into a garbage can.
Never leave an iron unattended unless it is off and unplugged.
Earthquakes
Our hotel is built to withstand powerful earthquakes. Nevertheless, it’s important to understand how earthquakes affect tall structures.
The effects of earthquakes on tall structures
The effects of earthquakes on tall structures will vary according to building and floor. However, some things remain true overall:
Faster tremors will be felt on lower floors. Unsecured objects (plants, books, picture frames, etc.) will fall, furniture will tip over and ceilings and floors could collapse.
Slower tremors with wider lateral movement will be felt on higher floors. Furniture will tip over or be moved across the room by the tremors. Windows will shatter.
Alarms and sprinklers could be triggered and power outages could occur on both lower and upper floors.
During an earthquake:
Keep away from windows.
Do not leave your room. You could become stuck in an elevator that has stopped due to outages or damage caused by the quake.
Keep away from heavy furniture and shelves that could fall over and injure you.
Take shelter under a desk, table or other solid piece of furniture. Stay underneath your piece of furniture and follow its movement if needed.
If you can’t find shelter, protect yourself as best you can.
After an earthquake:
After an earthquake, aftershocks are to be expected.
Wear shoes and protective clothing as the ground will likely be covered in debris and broken glass.
Listen to the radio for useful information and instructions from emergency services.
Make sure the building you are in hasn’t suffered any damage. Vacate the premises immediately if you find any obvious damage.
Leave your belongings behind while evacuating to avoid slowing movement in the stairs.
Don’t go back in the building without official authorization to do so.
