The Snow Rollers

Large horse-drawn rollers hardened the roads for the sleds. In 1936, the invention of a blade scraper to push away slush improved road conditions.

Logging Camps

Once the harvest is over, to support their large families, the men head off to the logging camps, where they clear the land and sell the wood to the sawmill.

Horses

Horses are essential to survival and must be well cared for: good food, leg checks in case of injury, a blanket on their back in cold weather and shelter at night.

Small metal horse dating from the 2nd half of the 19th century, used as an ornament on a sleigh or buggy.
