Fuel oil? A must!
The tanks
You are standing above the fuel oil tanks. The ship has four tanks, one for each of the four hatches (black covered rectangular openings) in front of you. The fuel oil that the ERNEST LAPOINTE used is a very thick substance. So to prevent the oil from setting, it has to be kept at high enough temperatures.
Inlet valve
The pipes were connected to this inlet valve to fill the tanks.
The refrigerator compressors
In the wire mesh box in front of you are the compressors of the galley refrigerators.
Actually, you are standing right under the officers’ mess.
