Preparing meals

The chief cook and his assistant prepared meals here for the entire crew. For lunch and supper, there were two choices of meal.

Crew members who worked nightshifts could come in and get something to eat. However, they had to wash their dishes or have a run-in with the cook!

The opening in front of you is the dumbwaiter, which was used to lower meals down to the crew’s lunch room on the deck below.
