AMANDA TRANSPORT

This scale model of the AMANDA TRANSPORT coastal ship was built by Nelson Sheedy of Saint-Laurent-de-l’Île-d’Orléans, in 1976. The wooden AMANDA TRANSPORT coastal ship itself was built by Nérée Mailloux in Baie-Saint-Paul, in 1941.
It transported an impressive quantity of sawmill logs and potato bags, because it was well cared for by its two successive owners for some 30 years. The AMANDA TRANSPORT has an exceptionally hydrodynamic shape. According to a statement made by the Ministère des Affaires culturelles in 1979, this special design marked a turning point in the building of St. Lawrence River schooners.
The connection between a captain and his ship is quite strong, as highlighted by Laurent Tremblay, the last schooner’s owner: “For my part, I would only abandon “Manda” at the end of the world, I swear.” (From Pierre Perrault’s film LES VOITURES D’EAU, produce by the NFB)
