MV ARCTIC
This scale model representing the MV ARCTIC was built by Lucien Leclerc and completed by Philippe Desmeules, who crafted the refined rigging details.
The MV ARCTIC is an ice-breaking cargo ship, more specifically, an ore-bulk-oil carrier, built in 1978 at the Port Weller shipyard, in St. Catharines, Ontario.
It was first managed jointly by the Canadian government and the Fednav maritime shipping company. The company later became the full owner of the ship in 1995.
The MV ARCTIC is well-known for having transported crude oil from 1985 to 1996 from one of the Queen Elizabeth Islands in transit for Montréal.
Another of the ship’s feats was her contribution to Fednav becoming the first maritime shipping company to complete unescorted transports year round in the Canadian Arctic.
On the first journey between Deception Bay and the Port of Québec, the ship carried a load of nickel from the Raglan mine.
