2020

A special event

The race was postponed until September for the first time since 1968 due to the health crisis. In spite of the late date, the weather was sunny during practice and it did not rain throughout the race.

It is more the case that popular traditions linked to the ordeal are being undermined. The "24 Hours Week" was cut short from Wednesday to Sunday and a total closed session led the cancellation of all events on the circuit and in the city (the drivers' parade). The traditional weighing, during which all of the technical checks would take place, was held on the circuit.

Toyota wins once again

The start of the race did not present any major issues for Toyota and the no. 7 which seemed to dominate. The car was forced into a pit stop during the night from which it emerged in fourth place some thirty minutes later. The Toyota no. 8 took the opportunity to take the lead and did not relinquish this until the finish. Toyota had their third victory in a row with the Toyota TS050 Hybrid which was taking part in its final race and was held in check until took part in the Le Mans 24 Hours for the twentieth time.

The first virtual Le Mans 24 Hours race would take place on the original dates of the event, namely on 13th and 14th June, 2020. Two worlds collide: some drivers were expecting an online "gamers" start.

Driver seed issue

Le Mans and the Japanese city of Suzuka celebrated 30 years of friendship back in 2020! Both cities share the tradition of cascading their winning drivers.
