1758, arrival of the first Acadians in Bécancour

The first group of Acadians arrived in the Bécancour region in 1758. They settled on the shores of Lake Saint-Paul. This group was composed of families from the Miramichi region. They travelled with the Canadian troops of the commander of Boishébert towards Quebec.

New neighbors for the Abenakis

From Quebec, they were directed by the clergy to the seigneury of Bécancour to the seigneur de Montesson. The Acadians had participated in an attack against the English in 1746 alongside Montesson. These Acadians became neighbors of the Abenakis established in the area (Wôlinak).

From New England to Bécancour

Finally, a last group arrived in 1767. These, coming from New England, arrived after having obtained permission from the American authorities.
