Fish Passage

Giving fish access to the upstream habitat they need isn't as easy as just installing some form of fish passage.

Each species of fish has different needs, while the existing infrastructure at the dams and the power generation needs don't always allow for the best type of passage. Timing is also a key consideration, with many dams having 30-year licensing agreements, with most opportunities to implement change taking place at the end of those terms.

Many state/federal agencies, nonprofit groups, and local residents have interests in improving fish passage as we all work to undo some of the greatest impacts on our ecosystems that earlier generations made.
