BIKE RIDE ALONG THE CANAL LACHINE

Montreal has many tourist attractions, but if you are looking to experience Montreal differently, see other aspects of Montreal and discover where Montrealers go in the summer, this circuit is for you. The bike is a suggestion (of course you can always follow the route by foot ... but you might not go too far 😊). Rent your bike with our partner Ça roule Montréal, directly on rue de la Commune, a 2-minute walk from the hotel, and just follow the path! Enjoy! Karin

Here we go! Simply follow the cycle path along the Old Port in the direction of the Lachine Canal. The track after the old port is quite new and you will be riding on a ‘flat ground, so it is drivable by all. Montrealer’s go there to practice biking, rollerblading, jogging, kayaking (you can even rent them near the Atwater market) or to meet up with family or friends, picnic, or just for the pleasure of sunbathing! Very quickly you will discover the Griffintown district, which for the past few years, has been in a full transformation. It continues to expand with numerous building towers. New architecture, ultra-modern buildings, fenestrated residences with terraces and swimming pools follow one another on your journey.

Then comes the district of Little Burgundy which seems more peaceful, more residential with an architecture marked with red bricks. A few perpendicular streets will give you a quick overview.

Throughout the way, you may also observer the opening or closing of one of the 5 locks ... Here on the picture the Saint-Gabriel Lock.

The St-Henri district: with its old abandoned factories, converted today into luxury residential buildings or office buildings. Fully adapted, you can walk on either side of the banks of the canal.

LUNCH BREAK

An essential stop in the middle of the route: the Atwater market. Local products, florists, local cheeses, cold meats… you will appreciate the colorful stands of seasonal fruits and vegetables. You can either get your picnic or eat there.

On your way back from your walk, stop at Le Havre aux Glaces at the Atwater Market. An excellent place to taste sorbets and ice creams, the choice is incredible! If you are more like a sorbet person like me, you will fall for passion fruit, lemon or strawberry basil!

If you continue on your way, you will probably be able to stop at the corner of a street truck near the Atwater market. And if you're lucky, you can enjoy a little concert by local artists. This is what makes these places so unusual and "so Montreal".

Continue your getaway to the Lock from Côte St-Paul

On your way back, stop by the St-Ambroise terrace, a famous spot for its locally brewed beers and its friendly atmosphere.
