This building was originally built as a Methodist Church, replaced by what is now Grace United Church @1900, it was sold to Shipbuilder George Cochrane who used it as a Sail loft where sails were cut and made. During WWI an addition was added to the back to allow the local militia to use it as a rifle range. As the Age of Sail dissipated in the 1920's George donated it back to the community and it was known as The Cochrane Hall Community Center. Eventually it fell into private ownership and was used for storage and as a garage before being donated to the museum society.
