Roberta Bondar was born on December 4, 1945, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where she completed elementary and secondary school. She received a B.Sc. in Zoology and Agriculture in 1968 from the University of Guelph, a M.Sc. in Experimental Pathology in 1971 from the University of Western Ontario. a PhD in neurobiology from the University of Toronto in 1974 and a medical degree from McMaster University in 1977. In 1981, she became a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Neurology. She is also an independent diver and a certified parachutist. Source: Canadian Space Agency
