Gilles Guerrette

Biography

Born in 1930, Gilles Guerrette is a man passionate about music. This accountant, musician (pianist), musical director, arranger and composer is considered an icon of Edmundston’s musical history.

He is known, on one hand in the 1950s for playing with the «Quintones» and on the other hand for the community of Edmundston by creating the Jazz & Blues Festival and doing volunteer work in this community throughout his life.

The festival will remain for me a cornerstone in my career, a kind of legacy if you will. I have tried to sharethis facet of music, the beauty of Jazz and Blues with music lovers in the region,” Told Mister Guerrette in an interview for the Infoweekend.

Mister Guerrette was inducted into the Edmundston Arts Hall of Fame [EAHF] in 2009 and, passed away in 2021 at the age of 91.


Since then, the City of Edmundston has honored his memory at the Jazz & Blues Festival. The City Hall Square stage now bears his name, in honor of his constant work and his unfailing dedication to this city, that carries him in his heart.
