The Heart of a Village
1953

Les Cèdres is the oldest village in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, founded at its current location in 1774. At the heart of the village stands the church built in 1881. It replaces the one built in 1781, which was located at the same spot on the riverbank.
For centuries, whether coming from the St. Lawrence River or the Soulanges Canal, the church’s steeple has indicated to sailors the presence of a village center. To the left of the church’s steeple stood the drying tower of the old fire pump. This tower was used to store and dry the fire hoses.
