The Metcalfe 'Canaller' Crossing Lock no. 5 at the Railway Bridge
1925

The Metcalfe 'canaller' (or canal boat), coming from the Great Lakes, enters Lock No. 5 at Coteau-du-Lac, at the level of the railway bridge that was opened for its passage.
These steamships were specifically designed for the Montreal - Great Lakes canal network. They could transform to carry different types of cargo, including coal, cement, oil, wood, or pulp. Their design focused on their size rather than speed, based on the dimensions of the locks to ease navigation through the network.
