The Metcalfe 'canaller' (or canal boat), coming from the Great Lakes, enters Lock No. 5 at Coteau-du-Lac, at the level of the railway bridge that was opened for its passage.

These steamships were specifically designed for the Montreal - Great Lakes canal network. They could transform to carry different types of cargo, including coal, cement, oil, wood, or pulp.
