You are heading into the heart of Saco's history to explore life and ecology along the Saco River — though that wasn't always its name.

Here, just below the dams, you're at the top of what we call the estuary — the portion of the river influenced by the ocean's tide — which creates a unique set of conditions and habitat in these last five miles of the river.

As you move through the tour, look for markers along the tour route to indicate the specific stops.

We encourage you to move and explore at your own pace, but each section of the tour corresponds with the different color markers on the map below to help align the tour content with areas of the riverwalk.
