The Flow of Time Along the Saco River

This region of Maine has seen a great deal of change over the last 400+ years.

From the Indigenous People that lived and farmed along the coast, to the bustling mills and shipbuilding of the colonies, to today — where tourism drives much of Maine's economy.

This tour includes much of Saco's history, but there's more to explore in the collection at the Saco Museum.

You can discover photographs, paintings, and artifacts from throughout Saco's history.

The Dyer Library was founded in 1881, and it has occupied its current home at 371 Main St. since 1955.

The Saco Museum was formerly known as the York Institute, and it merged with the Dyler Library to form a single cultural institution in 1976 to better serve the community.
