A Sunday Stroll on the Dock in Coteau-Landing (Les Coteaux)
Around 1900

Coteau-Landing has been known since the French regime as 'L’Anse-aux-Batteaux.' In the mid-19th century, the land was renamed Coteau-Landing in reference to the large wharf, near the now-disappeared grain elevator, where numerous passenger and cargo ships stopped to serve the inland areas.
This photograph was taken shortly after the extension of the wooden wharf to accommodate larger steamships. A family, dressed in their Sunday best, is returning from a stroll at the end of the wharf toward the village. The municipality of Les Coteaux was created in 1994 following the merger of Coteau-Landing and Coteau-Station.
