Between Two Locks
1937

The Soulanges Canal, stretching 23.4 km, crosses four municipalities: Pointe-des-Cascades, Les Cèdres, Coteau-du-Lac, and Les Coteaux. This big project led to the expropriation of land and the demolition of buildings, permanently altering the landscape of the region.
Yet, some areas still kept a bucolic charm. Here, between locks No. 4 and No. 5, a "canal steamer" leaves a trail of black smoke over the canal going through the rural landscape.
